FORSYTHE COMPANY TO CONTINUE JOINTRESIDENCE IN DRESDEN AND FRANKFURT AM MAIN



Dresden/Frankfurt - May 23, 2014

The State of Hesse, the Free State of Saxony, the City of Dresden and the City of Frankfurt am Mainhave agreed to extend their cooperative partnership, ensuring The Forsythe Company will continueits joint residence in Dresden and Frankfurt until 2018.

Hessian State Minister of Higher Education and the Arts Boris Rhein, Saxon State Minister of Higher Education and the Arts Prof. Dr. Dr. Sabine von Schorlemer, Dresden Deputy Mayor and Director of Cultural Affairs Dr. Ralf Lunau and Frankfurt City Councilor and Director of Cultural Aff airs Prof. Dr. FelixSemmelroth jointly announced today that all relevant governance bodies have approved theagreement's extension.

Since 2004, as a result of the agreement between the two states and two cities, a partnership uniquein Germany, the dance ensemble led by choreographer William Forsythe has divided the time itspends in residence equally between Frankfurt and Dresden.

The agreement extension will be accompanied by a change in artistic directorship at the company. As of September 2015, dancer and choreographer Jacopo Godani will become the ensemble'sartistic director, replacing William Forsythe, who no longer serves as the company's main choreographerbut who will continue to act as an artistic consultant to the group. Forsythe and the company havealso agreed that the company will continue to perform works in the ensemble's repertoire created byForsythe.

From 1991 to 2000, Godani was one of the main soloists at Forsythe's Frankfurt Ballet and duringthat time he played a key role in developing many of the pieces performed by the ensemble. As achoreographer he has worked with some of the world's best-known companies, such as CompaniaNacional de Danca (Madrid), Corpo di Ballo del Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Royal Danish Ballet(Copenhagen), Royal Ballet Covent Garden (London) and Semper Opera Ballet (Dresden).
